It's not about you now, it's about all of us.
Overuse of smartphone definitely left a huge impact on individuals, but it also struck the human society with great influence,
Since the introduction of smartphone, the usage rate of SNS and online chatting applications, such as Facebook, Twitter, Skype, WeChat, has increased dramatically. In other words, people are starting to have less face-to-face conversations. In 2006, people spent about 86% of their communication through face-to-face conversations. That is before the creation of iPhone, the Galaxy series, Blackberry, and all other kinds of smartphones that are common today. However, by 2010, the percentage decreased into 72% and it is still diminishing. 2010 is when iPhone 4 was released.
A mother, who has a nomophobic daughter, wrote an article about her daughter's smartphone overuse. She said, "take a look at a group of teenager when they socialize or sit in a group in a café or when they wait for a train. Every one of them has a constant supervision on their cell-phone. Now she is worried that she does nothing except staring at her phone. When having a family dinner, she barely speaks, eats, and all she does is socializing with her online friends. Also, she turns aggressive when her mother forces her to quit her phone and join the conversation.
Conversation is not the only thing that smartphone takes away from us, sometimes it is a murderer. The National Safety Council of the United States reviewed 180 severe traffic accidents from 2009 to 2011, and surprisingly, it found out that more than half of them were caused because the drivers were distracted from their phone replying texts, having a call, reading an article, etc.
Now that the addiction is affecting the human society with such an impact, it can be considered as a critical disease to the human society. Of course the addictions won't make the children have those horrible incidents, but if the parents don't lead their children to th eproper usage of smartphones, it will become unavoidable habits for them, putting them in a high risk of facing the horrible incidents in the future.
