People that are born in the very late 20th century or during 21st century are called digital natives.
They are the generation of people after the pioneers of technologies and used the world’s most advanced technology since they were young.
Today, I would say the most advanced and widely used technology is smartphones. Almost everyone in the developed countries owns a smartphone, and it has been a great tool for the humanity, making our lives so much more convenient.
However, the abuse and the overuse of smartphones are starting to cause slight harm to the humanity, and the damage is growing over time, especially with the digital natives. Smartphone addiction is one of the hottest issues among the parents and teachers nowadays.
Somehow the digital natives has been addicted to their smartphones and lost their ability to interact with the real world. Now doctors have created an official word for smartphone addictions, nomophobia, abbreviating the world “no-mobile-phone-phobia”.
Considering the fact that smartphones are starting to have negative influence to the human society, I believe parents, teachers, and guardians must have solid management over their children and students’ smartphone usage in order to prevent the digital natives losing their skills to interact with the “offline” society.
